Morreu no último sábado dia (10) em Kingston, na Jamaica, o cantor e produtor de reggae Sugar Minott. De acordo com o The Guardian, o músico de 54 anos havia cancelado uma série de shows no Canadá no início do ano por conta de uma dor no peito. Sugar começou a ficar conhecido nos anos 70, e um de seus maiores sucessos foi uma versão de Good Thing Going, de Michael Jackson. Na ocasião, ele chegou ao 4º lugar nas paradas inglesas de 1981. O músico de Kingston começou a cantar aos 12 anos e tinha o costume de criar versões em reggae de canções conhecidas do grande público. Sugar ainda foi um dos pioneiros do dancehall.

Sugar Minott nasceu 25 de maio de 1956 e morreu em sabado, 10 de julho no Hospital Universitário das Índias Ocidentais. Seu corpo será enterrado no Hall da Harker Cemitério de Santa Catarina.
Segundo o release, Sugar "vivia com a sua mãe, 14 crianças, três irmãs, quatro irmãos, 19 netos e seis mães de bebês".
Conhecido como o Padrinho do Dancehall, Sugar Minott foi um dos cantores mais populares e prolíficos do gênero nos anos 80 e da década de noventa.
